Youth Health Centre

CPA Youth Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment to help youth make decisions about their health and well-being. Jenn supports their health needs through confidential conversations, helps navigate youth to health resources in the school and community, and helps to create opportunities for health and well-being in the school.

Youth can get confidential information or support on topics like:

  • Emotional support
  • Feeling confused or stressed
  • Learning how to cope with stress
  • Relationships (with friends, peers, family, teachers, coaches, etc)
  • Problems at home
  • Birth control education
  • Safer sex information
  • Sexuality and gender questions
  • Dating violence
  • Help to change a relationship with a substance (nicotine, cannabis, alcohol, etc)
  • Healthy eating and nutrition
  • Condoms, pregnancy tests and other sexual health products are available through the YHC

Students can drop in on their own at a time that works for them or schedule a time-they don't need a referral! Youth also don't need to tell anyone why they're going-staff and teachers will support students accessing the Youth Health Centre.

The YHC is not a place to come if you are sick or injured. Jenn does not give out medication or provide first aid to students.

The YHC offers judgment-free, confidential support. We value the knowledge of youth and will advocate for youth when appropriate. Jenn can be a connection to a community service or support, but will also be a support as you navigate life's challenges.

On Thursday mornings, you will find Karrie Rayne in the YHC. Karrie is a social worker from Cobequid Youth Health Centre, who provides a place for youth and their families to turn for help and support, in an environment of respect and confidentiality. Social workers advocate, navigate and collaborate with community partners while providing counselling, support and referrals for young people aged 13 to 25, with or without their families. You can access her by coming to the YHC Thursday mornings or by calling 902-869-6131. You can also ask Jenn to make an appointment with Karrie for you.

You will find a link to the YHC schedule in your graduating Google classroom.
